Since the advent of Apple Face ID system, facial recognition has become quite popular in the market. From fast food chains to social media firms and security systems, everyone is employing this technology as a litmus paper to provide secure and exclusive customer experience. One such company recently receiving the limelight for using face-based technology is CaliBurger.

CaliBurger

CaliBurger, a California-based burger chain with 40+ stores globally, has introduced Artificial intelligence-based Kiosks to its stores. Kiosks can identify the customers, pull their loyalty account and order preferences when they look into the camera. Thus, they can get rid from the hassle of entering details or swiping card to access their account.

Using the machine learning technology, Kiosks are also allowing the customers place their previous order within a few seconds. Also, they offering services such as creating new loyalty account, link their faces to existing account, etc. And the best thing is all the customers need to leverage these benefits is to smile at a Kiosk.

Our goal for 2018 is to swap credit card swipes with face recognition payments. It is an art of our future strategy to make our restaurant chain able to offer the same kind of benefits and services to the customers, as the retailers like Amazon are providing,” said Cali Group CEP John Miller.

Right now, the kiosk is under testing at a single location in Pasadena, California. However, the chain is planning to roll out the kiosk at all the locations in 2018, if all goes well.

Various other Companies experimenting with Facial Recognition Technology

Besides the CaliBurger, various other companies have invested in the technology, giving us a hint why investing in Artificial intelligence is the need of the hour.

KFC

A KFC branch in China revealed this September that they will let the customers with registered accounts pay their bills using facial scanning process. The software will also suggest orders based on the age, gender and mood of the customer.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Canadian branches of the luxury outlets have started using the facial recognition technology in 2016 for comparing images of people from security camera feeds with a shoplifter database to screen out threats and with VIP database to determine who should get special treatment.

Walmart

Walmart, the retail giant, filed for a patent in 2012 for using recognition software to recognize unhappy customers as well as cut down the staffing costs.

Hope more new names will be added to the list of firms using facial recognition technology in 2018.
